  • Infertility

  • Fertility Treatments
  • • In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF)
  •    o IVF treatment involves stimulation of the ovaries with hormones to produce multiple follicles containing eggs. These eggs are retrieved and mixed with sperm in order for embryos to develop. These embryos are then transferred into the patient after a few days of culturing ‘in vitro’.
  • • Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)
  •    o ICSI is performed as part of an IVF cycle and refers to a technique whereby a single sperm is injected directly into the egg.
  • • IMSI – Intra-cytoplasmic Morphologically selected Sperm Injection
  •    o IMSI is a new technique used to select those sperm that are morphologically normal and that should therefore be most likely to result in a successful pregnancy following intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).
  • • Intra-Uterine Insemination (IUI)
  •     o Intra-Uterine Insemination (IUI), sometimes referred to as artificial insemination, involves placing prepared sperm into the woman’s womb near the time of ovulation.
  • • IVF with Donor Eggs (Information will be given)
  •    o When a woman or couple is unable to have IVF with her own eggs, they can receive eggs donated by a donor. Patients receiving eggs are ‘matched’ with a donor of their choice.
  • • Treatment with donor sperm (Information will be given)
  •   o When a woman or couple is unable to have a child with a male partner’s sperm, they can opt to have assisted conception treatment (IUI or IVF) with donor sperm. Patients receiving donor sperm will be ‘matched’ with a donor of their choice. This treatment is also available for single women or female same sex couples.
  • • Egg Sharing Treatments (Information will be given)
  •   o A form of egg donation which is mutually beneficial to both parties. When an infertile couple cannot afford the cost of IVF treatment, they can share their eggs with another couple.
  • • Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET)
  •   o Any surplus embryos in a fresh IVF or ICSI cycle may be frozen if they are of good quality. If the fresh cycle is not successful, the frozen embryos can be thawed and used to try again. Alternatively, if the fresh cycle is successful, the frozen embryos can be used in future for attempting to have siblings.
  • • Mild/Natural IVF
  •  o Mild stimulation or modified natural cycle IVF uses lower doses of fertility medication than conventional “full stimulation” IVF.
  • • Follicular Tracking
  •   o This is the simplest form of assisted conception treatment. Assistance is provided in monitoring the follicular growth, ovulation and timing of the intercourse. There is no stimulation of ovaries with any drugs and this is the most natural form of assisted conception.
  • • Surrogacy Treatments (Information will be given)
  •   o When a woman cannot carry a baby due to the absence of a uterus or defective uterus, another woman helps the woman or a couple by carrying the baby for them. This treatment is also suitable for male gay couples.
  • Specialist Procedures
  • • Endometrial Scratch
  •   o An endometrial scratch is performed in preparation for embryo transfer. It is a minor procedure that can increase the chance of embryo implantation.
  • • HyCoSy
  •   o Hysterosalpingo-Contrast Sonography (HyCoSy) is an ultrasound procedure used to assess the patency of the fallopian tubes and detect abnormalities of the uterus and endometrium. The procedure uses a non-toxic contrast agent for visualization under ultrasound.
  • • Hysteroscopy
  •    o A hysteroscopy is a procedure that allows a surgeon to look inside your womb (uterus) using a narrow tube-like telescopic camera called a hysteroscope. A hysteroscopy can be used either to diagnose or treat a gynaecological condition.
  • • Ultrasound Scan
  •   o Ultrasonography or ultrasound is a diagnostic imaging technique used to visualise internal organs. It provides invaluable information for the diagnosis and treatment of fertility issues for both men and women. Ultrasound scans are useful in every step of the fertility treatment process and ultimately, to confirm a successful pregnancy.
  • • Surgical Sperm Retrieval
  •   o Surgical sperm retrieval allows sperm to be obtained when there is no sperm present in the ejaculate. The procedures also allow potentially higher quality sperm to be retrieved when the sperm in the ejaculate is suboptimal.
  • • Genetic Testing of Embryos (PGS/PGD)
  •    o One of the major reasons causing embryos to fail to implant or miscarry is a genetic abnormality. It has also been established that the risk of a genetic abnormality increases with maternal age. Hence, genetic testing of an embryo and subsequently transferring embryo(s) that are genetically normal should increase the pregnancy rate and reduce the risk of miscarriage or birth of a child with a genetic abnormality (e.g. Down’s syndrome). To this end we offer pre-implantation genetic screening to assess whether embryos are chromosomally normal. If you have a family history of a particular genetic condition or are at higher risk for such a condition, we offer pre-implantation genetic diagnosis to test embryos for a particular genetic abnormality.
  • • Blastocyst Culture
  •   o Culturing embryos in the laboratory to day five or six gives the embryos more opportunity to prove their developmental potential.
  • • Non -Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) (Information will be given)
  •   o Dr Fouzia offers two non-invasive prenatal tests (NIPT) that determine whether your baby is at risk for Down’s Syndrome (Trisomy 21), Edward’s Syndrome (Trisomy 18), and Patau Syndrome (Trisomy 13). NIPT involves a simple blood test and viability scan and may be performed as early as 10 weeks of pregnancy. NIPT will provide accurate answers when they matter most — simply, safely, sooner.
  • • Gynaecology
  •   o Gynaecology is a wide field encompassing the diagnosis, treatment and management of issues relating to the female reproductive system. Our clinics offer the latest state-of-the-art surgical treatment for a full range of gynaecological issues including well woman screening, hysteroscopy and laparoscopy to treatments for fibroids, ovarian cysts and endometriosis.
  • Fertility Preservation
  • • Egg Freezing (Information will be given)
  •   o Egg freezing is often referred to as fertility preservation because it allows a woman to preserve her fertility, i.e. the chance of conceiving a child with her own eggs, until a later point in her life when she is ready to have a child. Egg freezing can be performed for medical or social reasons.
  • • Sperm Freezing
  •   o Sperm freezing is often referred to as fertility preservation because it allows a man to preserve his fertility, i.e. the chance of conceiving a child with his own sperm, until a later point in his life when he is ready to have a child. Sperm freezing can be performed for medical or social reasons.
  • Patient Support
  • • Fertility Support
  •   o For many couples, learning that their only way to conceive a child is by undertaking fertility treatment can feel like an emotional blow.
  • • Acupuncture (Information will be given)
  •   o Acupuncture is well known for its calming effects and has also been found to be effective when undergoing IVF treatment. We now offer an acupuncture service with a highly experienced expert, to assist patients during their treatment journey. We use traditional needle and laser acupuncture, which stimulates points in the body by using a low-energy laser beam. This is particularly suitable for people who struggle with needles.
  • • Reflexology
  •   o Reflexology is a traditional healing art dating back to millennia and involves the manipulation of pressure or ‘reflex’ points in both the hands and feet.
  • • Nutritional Therapy
  •   o Nutrition is an important area to get right when you are trying to conceive; a good healthy diet will help to lower stress levels, keep the body in good shape and stabilise hormone levels.
  • • Fertility Coaching
  •   o In conjunction with clinical care, our uniquely holistic and supportive programme can provide you with the additional support you need.
  • • Antenatal Care
  •   o Our clinics offer a comprehensive suite of antenatal, including appointments with Dr Fouzia a Foetal Medicine Specialist, ultrasounds, cervical sutures and a private delivery.
